The College of New Jersey
Since 2000, The College of New Jersey and Regional Training Center have partnered to provide high quality graduate professional education coursework at off-campus sites throughout the state and online to meet the needs of certified public, parochial and private school educators. Beginning in 2006, the 30-credit Masters in Education (with a concentration in Instruction) has also been available.
The College of New Jersey's strong academic tradition of quality and excellence began in 1855 when the college was founded as the New Jersey State Normal School, the state's first and the nation's ninth teacher training school. In 1947, the college continued to expand upon its student-centered mission of preparing New Jersey's future leaders and introduced its first graduate program. Today, TCNJ offers eighteen graduate degree programs and sixteen graduate and professional certifications in the fields of Administration, Counseling, Education, English and Nursing.
A number of educational institutions, organizations and individuals have joined forces to support the effort to bring these research based, top-quality graduate programs to the teachers of New Jersey on an outreach basis. The courses were researched and designed by teams from: ASCD, National Institute for Relationship Training (NIRT), and The Center for Lifelong Learning (CLL) working with top educational researchers from throughout North America. In New Jersey, they are offered for graduate credit in association with The College of New Jersey.
Much of the course content matches priorities of local, state and national school reform. Individual teachers, local teacher groups, and school districts have invited the courses to be offered in their areas. Course instructors are highly qualified and experienced practitioners.
The College of New Jersey is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. In addition, programs at the bachelor's and master's level for the preparation of teachers are accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE/CAEP).
